The Film Company is a unique production company that greenlights
artists, not projects, and provides all the support necessary to create
a feature film, in any format, from concept through distribution.
The Film Company is overseen by the proven producing team of
Jamie Hook and Gregg Lachow, who between them have more than
twenty-five years of experience across the independent film
landscape. Widely credited as galvanizing forces of Seattle's
burgeoning film community through their respective foundings of the
Northwest Film Forum and The Film Company, Hook and Lachow offer a
unique and deeply committed approach to the art and business of
making movies, buttressed by their experiences as award-winning film
directors, festival programmers, and artistic entrepreneurs each in
their own right.
The Film
Company is structured as a parent LLC responsible for the creation
and capitalization of serial subsidiary production LLCs, each
overseeing a
"slate" of five diverse films, from production through
distribution, on an 18-month timeline. The parent company represents
the continuity of corporate efforts of The Film Company, while the
subsidiary represents the best possible positioning for
capitalization, production and marketing efficiency of a discrete
group of five low-budget films.
Our model calls for us to
make money by licensing our film productions for distribution, either
in-house or with an external distributor. Fundamental to our
methodology is the notion of diversifying the innate risks of
filmmaking over a slate of five films per each 18-month production
"season." Recognizing that independent film trades significant risk
for geometric upside potential, The Film Company uniquely spreads the
risk of each investment dollar over five discrete films, each
representing that elusive but real chance for breakout success.
Supporting our productive methodology is a pro-active
approach to distribution. There exists an audience for almost every
film made: our job, upon a film"s completion, is to find and maximize
revenue from that audience. Thus, we include in our production plan
dedicated funds for self-distribution of films that fail to attract a
larger distributor. By providing a minimum distribution guarantee,
we are confident that we can maximize returns on our whole slate of
films.
